Sexually Transmitted Diseases 

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) are infectious diseases that are transmitted through sexual contact. Estimates indicate about 20 million new cases are diagnosed annually in the U.S. About 50% of the new infections occur in individuals between 15 and 24 years of age.

There are many STDs that don’t cause symptoms initially. Many STD symptoms might be confused with the symptoms of other diseases that aren’t transmitted by sexual contact, especially in women. Even STDs that don’t have symptoms can be contagious.

Once they have been diagnosed, many STDs can successfully be treated. However, there are some STDs such as herpes that cannot be completely cured and they can recur.
